Saturday's postcard: 1970s Putt-Putt courses in Indiana

It's endless miniature golf under the flourescent lights in this Indiana Putt-Putt advertising postcard from the mid 1970s. The course looks like it just keeps going and going and going on back, doesn't it? If you remove the people, it's like the backrooms of miniature golf.

The postcard advertises three different 18-hole miniature golf courses at New Carmel Putt-Putt, located at 301 E. Carmel Drive between Racquet Club and Steak and Shake. It appears that location in Carmel today is commercial office space, so I guess the backrooms aesthetic still holds.

There are a lot of memories of this location on various Facebook pages. I'm curating some of them here:

  • "I loved that Putt Putt Place! My two oldest boys liked to hang out in the arcade there when I went for my pre-natal check ups next door."
  • "First date with my husband (in heels) and the good old tin star jail!"
  • "I was always there for Super Saturday."
  • "The good ol' Carmel Putt Putt. I spent many evening there in the Arcade. Loved playing the USA vs USSR Hockey game with my Friends. The old man in there was always mean, so it seemed."

Please share your memories in the comments!
